What to Expect From Paul and Vaughn
The film acting team at Be Scene Acting consists of industry veterans Paul Tinder and Vaughn Taylor. Working with Paul and Vaughn will make you a stronger actor, more confident and responsive to what motivates your character to take action which is what is needed to become a successful professional actor.
.
Paul and Vaughn share a collective background that spans some of the most influential figures and institutions in acting. They both trained under Tony Barr at the Film Actors Workshop on the Warner Brothers Lot in Hollywood. Tony Barr, known for his emphasis on reactive acting, taught them the importance of being attentive listeners. This approach ensures that every response, pause, and movement is fully motivated and organically aligned with the scene, enhancing the realism and depth of performances.
Their training also included sessions with Warren Robertson, founder of the Actor’s Repertory Theater in New York. Warren was celebrated by the Yale Theatre Review as one of the country’s most prominent drama coaches and was named the acting teacher of the seventies by the New York Post. His methodology focused on achieving emotional freedom and cultivating an acute sensitivity to one’s feelings. This practice allows actors to embody the humanity of their characters and authentically convey the motivations behind their actions.
Paul’s individual training journey led him to work with William Esper, a renowned teacher at the Neighborhood Playhouse and associate of Sanford Meisner for 17 years. Esper’s teachings helped actors connect with their characters’ emotional truths, encouraging performances that are instinctive rather than merely intellectual. This connection is vital for authentic engagement between scene partners.
Additionally, Paul studied under Herbert Berghof, founder of the HB Studios in NYC and husband of the legendary Uta Hagen. Berghof’s instruction focused on the significance of an actor’s actions in influencing other characters, steering away from internalized thought processes. This objective-driven approach not only constructs the character but also fosters a dynamic interaction with fellow actors.
At Be Scene Acting, we are thrilled to have Paul Tinder and Vaughn Taylor bring these diverse and powerful teachings to our students, guiding them to explore and harness their full artistic potential in every performance.
